Deletion request, helpful comment

Hello Tvpuppy,

wanna try your hand at closing Commons:Deletion requests/File:Wikimedia Summit 2022 K1.jpg? Non-admins are also entitled to close discussions when keeping the file is the single sensible outcome: Commons:Deletion requests#Closing discussions. Here, the rationale "copyvio-derivative" disappeared because you managed to spot the underlying work. Nobody should object, as we're both the actual nominators for deletion (my speedy, your standard DR). Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 14:28, 31 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I will try it out. Thanks for letting me know. Tvpuppy (talk) 15:39, 31 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Deletion request, language help?

Hello Tvpuppy, I communicated with a fellow Wikimedian in Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Ch2ems, me using English and Google Translate, and him using simplified Chinese. Do you eventually have the time to check whether the machine translation removes finer parts of relevant expressions? The gist I've gotten is that he's engaged with local sport associations, is photographing and providing media for these clubs (in parallel to Commons) and maybe his social media presence, uses several (also high levelled) cameras and has a bit of struggling with cloud storage services. Do you think that my points of providing sufficient creation history and preferentially EXIF got through? Just asking, as relying on machine translators has its negative points... Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 00:12, 4 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Grand-Duc For the point about creation history, I checked the Google translation and it is a bit confusing so I translated your point to them again. For the point about the EXIF, I think they did understand since they explained why the photos didn’t have EXIF, and they said they will pay more attention when uploading in the future.
Also, I think you got the gist but just in case the translation didn’t make sense, their explanation was that they posted the photos on social media and also backed up their photos on the cloud storage. However, they were using the free version of the cloud storage, so the download speed was very slow. That’s why it’s more convenient for them to just download it from their social media, hence the lack of EXIF. Tvpuppy (talk) 02:18, 4 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations, dear license reviewer

If you use the helper gadget, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-.

Hi Tvpuppy, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review and files from other sources. You can enable the LicenseReview gadget from Preferences.

Important: You should not review your own uploads, nor those of anyone closely related to you!

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.libera.chat. You can also add {{User license reviewer}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! --C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 02:32, 11 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, thanks for the message as well. Tvpuppy (talk) 02:38, 11 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi Tvpuppy,

Hope you're fine. At the end of this deletion request talk, please note other files to add (which I could find). Thank's. Tisourcier (talk) 17:49, 16 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Tisourcier Thank you for letting me know. I moved the list of images in your latest comment to my comment at the top, so now it should look more organized. Tvpuppy (talk) 18:09, 16 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Best regards and thank's again for all your work here. ;) Tisourcier (talk) 16:31, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello again,
We could add also this file too :
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Logo_%2BSport.png
And categories (?) as such as : https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Canal%2B_France_logos
Regards. Tisourcier (talk) 18:11, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Tisourcier, in my opinion, I think it is better to wait for the final decision to be made first for the logos that are currently nominated. If it was decided to delete them, then I (or others) will surely nominate the remaining logos in Category:Canal+ France logos accordingly. Currently, unless it will help support the deletion request, I don’t think adding more logos will contribute to it.
Still, if you want to add a comment with a list of images to the deletion request like before, I have no problem helping to organize it. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 19:48, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi ! I understand. It's a decent way to proceed. Thank's to you. Now the main point is precautionary principle deletion apply. Have a nice day. ;) Tisourcier (talk) 13:03, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Claims

You know, I put in a lot of effort, you know, I did a lot of things, you can upload your photos that you want, I'm very interested to see how you cope with this. Spectra321578 (talk) 20:47, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Spectra321578. Sorry but I’m quite confused. I’m not sure I understand what you are talking about. Do you have a question or need help from me? Tvpuppy (talk) 20:54, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
There are complaints!
What the hell did you do to touch my work? A month ago you said they needed to be deleted.
I think this is unfair, because I tried, worked, tried to do everything carefully so that there would be no complaints, and now my work is being removed under the stigma.
Stop this circus, the guy uploaded his edits and you don't care, you just want to show off in front of the administration.
Stoop! What's wrong with you today? Spectra321578 (talk) 21:18, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for reminding me. I understand you are frustrated that your uploads are being nominated for deletion at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by User:Spectra321578. However, I have a couple points for you:
  • First, this issue should be discussed at the deletion request page, having the discussion here in my talk page does not do anything to help. This is because it is the admins who decide whether to keep or delete images, and they most likely will not be able to see any discussions in talk pages.
  • Second, your images were nominated on the basis that they are out-of-scope. If you think they are not out-of-scope, please provide an explanation about the images themselves, unfortunately the argument that you “put a lot of effort” is not a sufficient reason for an image to be kept.
  • Third, in the comment above, you told me to “stop” two times, but I’m not sure what do you want me to “stop”, since I have only commented once on a deletion request page a month ago. You also said “the guy uploaded his edits and you don't care”, but I don’t know who you were referring to.
  • Fourth, I noticed you “thanked” me twice just now, but from your comment above, I don’t think you are truly “thanking” me. It seems to me you may have used the “thank” button as an attempt of harassment, so I will remind you to stop doing that.
  • Finally, as mentioned above, if you want to provide more explanation, please do it at the deletion request page. I do not need you or expect you to reply to this comment. Thank you.

Article check on ZH-WP

Hello Tvpuppy, can I ask you to lend me a hand?

I took charge of this request here: Commons:Village pump#Aloe suzannae; the plant happens to have articles in Chinese Wikipedia editions, see the Interwikis in de:Aloestrela suzannae (sorry for German, EN doesn't actually have a species article, only for the genus) or on d:Q135695.

Could you look whether the rename is already reflected there? Thanks ans sorry for the bother. :-) Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 22:22, 11 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Grand-Duc, I think the plant name on zh-wiki article will remain the same for now, as there isn’t a Chinese name for the genus “Aloestrela” (other than the Chinese name for “Aloe”). Still, I will change the references to its Latin name so it reflects the change as mentioned. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 22:55, 11 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

question.

Hello Tvpuppy,

In the edit summary you wrote, "Add note by Jmabel" here: [1]. Could you please share a link to this note? Thanks, -- Ooligan (talk) 05:55, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Ooligan, it was from a Village Pump discussion, here: Commons:Village pump/Archive/2025/07#Category:Files from 500px.com with bad file names. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 12:18, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for this link. -- Ooligan (talk) 00:24, 15 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Tails waiting. Gif deleted

you noticed you removed my tails waiting gif from sonic the hedgehog 2 mobile version my upload media is just copyrighted, so what wrong about that. Knites (talk) 13:30, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Knites, I assume you are referring to Commons:Deletion requests/File:Tails waiting.gif. The problem is it appears the GIF you uploaded was extracted from the video game “Sonic the Hedgehog 2”.
  • You can only uploaded you own original work (created solely by you), or else you need to get permission to upload works created by other people.
  • In this case, since “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is created by SEGA, you will need to get permission from SEGA before uploading it to Commons.
  • This is the reason your upload was deleted, since it appears you are not the original creator and you didn’t have permission to upload it.
For a more detailed explanation, you can read Commons:First steps and Commons:Fan art. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 16:30, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Category discussion warning

18th-century magazines of the United Kingdom has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Rathfelder (talk) 19:44, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Rathfelder, thanks for notifying me about the CfD. If the category was renamed, I can help modify the template so it works for the new name. However, since I don’t have much knowledge on this topic, I don’t think I can provide any useful input to the CfD. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 21:06, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think the template might already work - we just need to rename the subcategories Rathfelder (talk) 21:09, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
